Our annual Open Show is fun!
What’s more, anyone can enter – not just Society members.
Whether we have a window box, a garden or an allotment we all have something we’re happy to show off to our friends each year – our failures as well as our successes.
Unlike some shows, we don’t expect marrows that arrive in a wheelbarrow, dahlias the size of dinner plates, or photos meriting a place in the Tate. We simply enjoy sharing our achievements with our friends, with just a hint of competition to make life interesting.
And if it’s been a rotten year, then the class for “My disaster vegetable” is the place to garner our mates’ commiserations (and perhaps win a prize). The prizes are modest, but as there are no entry fees there’s nothing to lose.
Don’t even possess a window box? No problem. We have cookery and photo classes, and the blooms in your flower arrangement can come from the florist.
Children have their own craft and cookery classes, but are also encouraged to compete with the adults to gain extra points. And the prizes they win can count towards our Inter-Family Competition.
The Show also encompasses displays by local School Gardening Clubs, which can in turn compete in special classes.
There’s always a free competition to test your natural-world knowledge, and there’s even a gardening-themed tombola.
So whether you’re participating, or just visiting the ever-popular Crowborough Town Fair at Goldsmiths, be sure to pop into the big marquee and enjoy our displays. You might even be tempted to join in next year!
